Volunteer with Another Way Texas Shares or one of our member organizations
AWTS and our 44 member organizations are always looking for volunteers throughout Texas to fill a variety of needs. If you are interested in volunteering with AWTS or any of our member organizations, we can help you find the best opportunity to fit your interests and our members' needs. You can fill out the volunteering form, and email, fax or mail it to Another Way Texas Shares, or simply send us an email expressing your interests in volunteering.

Below is a partial list of current volunteering opportunities available. This list is updated approximately once every two weeks. PLEASE NOTE, this list is NOT inclusive of all volunteering opportunities available through AWTS and our members.

Current Volunteering Opportunities Available Through AWTS Member Organizations:
Advocacy, Inc.
Advocacy, Inc. seeks volunteers to assist with general office/clerical tasks at offices in the following Texas cities: Austin, Dallas, Houston, Lubbock, El Paso, San Antonio, Longview, and McAllen.

We also welcome volunteer attorneys licensed by the State Bar of Texas, law clerks, and legal research assistants. Law school students can receive course credit by participating in our law clerk program. Other internships in areas such as social work, accounting, and human resources, can also be arranged for course credit or just to gain experience.

Office hours are Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Flexible schedules are most definitely available.

Breast Cancer Resource Center
Office volunteers are needed for our Round Rock location. Volunteers should be breast cancer survivors and must be willing to attend training on peer support and answering our Helpline. Volunteers staff our office during normal business hours and offer support and information to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Bilingual volunteers a plus, but not necessary. Proficiency in data entry and general office work helpful including filing, addressing envelopes, and answering the telephone. Our Round Rock office is open 5 days a week as follows:
Monday: 10 am - 1 pm
Tuesday & Wednesday: 10 am - 3 pm
Thursday: 12 noon - 3 pm
Friday: 10 am - 12 noon

Other volunteer opportunities are available in Austin at our main office.

Weekend volunteer opportunities include representing BCRC at health fairs at various locations in Round Rock, Austin, Georgetown and surrounding areas. Staffing booth requires volunteers who are educated in breast health and who enjoy being with a variety of people.

Disability Assistance of Central Texas
DACT seeks volunteers in Travis County and the surrounding area for a variety of tasks. Office support positions are primarily needed Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, but there is some flexibility. Client support positions vary depending on the task, the client, and the volunteer. Volunteers are always welcome, whether available on an on-going basis or for a limited time only. Current volunteer needs include:
Administrative Support: assist in office with phones, filing, reception, data base maintenance, running errands, etc.
Community Connector: One-on-one interaction with clients (adults with disabilities) to help with personal tasks such as shopping and banking, or to help them with leisure activities such as going to a movie or park
Financial Assistant: Help with spread sheets, filing, bookkeeping, etc.
Job Coach: Provide on-the-job assistance to a client in our employement program, as he/she--a newly hired employee--learns the "ins and outs" of a new job at the job site
Licensed Counselor
: Act as a resource for clients who have counseling needs
Committee Volunteer: Make a permanent commitment by joining a standing committee for Administration, Finance, Development, or Business (Employment)
Hedge Trimmers/Haulers: Trim hedges at the front and south side entrance to the building; haul away trimmings or put them in the dumpster if there is space
Situational Assessment Site: Provide a work site for agency clients to "sample" work with agency staff at their side. Examples of work samples could be folding towels, stocking dry goods on shelves, answering phones, sweeping or vacuuming, etc.
Volunteer Coordinator: Stay in touch with agency volunteers; coordinate volunteers with jobs that need to be done. Complete applications for volunteer group projects.
